In the Scots language a ‘Strath’ is a wide river valley of flat, fertile land bounded by hills, this precisely defines the Vale of Strathmore.  On its northern edge are the Angus Glens, including the pretty red sandstone town of Kirriemuir, not only the home of JM Barrie the author of Peter Pan but geographically it is the Gateway to the Glens.  From Kirriemuir you can easily access the stunning Glens of Prosen and Clova, both offering excellent walks and orienteering opportunities.

 About 30 metres below the fertile topsoil, is the source of the famous Strathmore mineral water.  Here rain collects after 50 years of gentle filtration through layers of mineral rich rock and sandstone to become one of the best known mineral waters on the market today.

 The southern edge of Strathmore is defined by the Sidlaw hills, a ridge that borders the famous River Tay as it meanders its way from Perth to Dundee alongside the Carse of Gowrie where low rainfall ensures bumper crops of soft fruit can be relied upon.

 The flagship of the area is one of Scotland’s most beautiful and interesting visitor attractions. Glamis Castle, is the family home of the late Queen mother and the seat of the Earls of Strathmore.
