Coupar Angus

A long-established town that sits out in the well-tended fields of Strathmore near the winding River Isla, the name of the place acknowledges the fact that it is almost in Angus! In fact, it was originally and only became part of Perthshire in the 19th century.

Today at the centre of an area noted for soft fruit and potato growing, Coupar Angus was formerly an important place of trade through its abbey, though little of this monastic settlement can be seen today. The town then became a ‘burgh of barony’ – a community with trading rights - in 1607, and the town’s later Tolbooth, the administrative centre of the old burgh, is still of note.

Today, this important town in Strathmore features a good choice of accommodation, and an extensive park with especially good facilities for children, plus good road links and easy driving times to a wide range of attractions in Perthshire and Angus. , Coupar Angus is a good base for tourers, as well as anglers, who have easy access to the River Isla
